The Master

A hooded figure controlling a rebellion that is nestled in the mountains of a backwoods planet, the Master has planned out an attack that will affect both humans and the computer systems upon which they rely. Gathering forces, the Master is approached by several "old friends" and several identities are revealed. Not entirely terroristic, the Master's approach to changing the government is through control. The extent of the Master's lust for control gradually increases, stemmed only by a disgust at the powerlessness of others. The Master is 21 cycles in age.

Deshi

Deshi feels oppressed by the government of her galaxy, but in her small town she feels quite helpless. Deshi has led a very middle-class life. The excruciating boredom resulting from her inactivity and the mounting frustration at her own powerlessness drives Deshi to the edge. After attempting suicide in despair, Deshi flees with a band of travelers to a mountain hideaway. There, she joins forces with the all-mysterious Master and begins to realize her potential as an individual and a leader. Deshi is 15 cycles in age.

Lian

Bunkmates with Deshi, Lian is an intelligent woman who appears to have been a part of this uprising since near its beginning. Lian, while introverted, can be bitingly sarcastic and is a master at chess and wordplay. Sometimes appearing suspicious, Lian sneaks away from her work in the Master's camp to do things of her own agenda. Her sudden and lengthy absences finally arouse Deshi's suspicion, though the two girls have grown very close. Lian is 21 cycles in age.

Fa Jia

A regal woman and member of the High Council, Fa Jia is an exceptionally powerful member of society. Sometimes called the Emerald Lady, it is Fa Jia's custom to dress in varied hues of green. She visits the Master to make an attempt at peace. While similar to the Master in many of her ideals, Fa Jia believes that systems can and should be changed from within, legally, rather than being attacked from without. Fa Jia is 18 cycles in age.

Fu Kun

Fu Kun is a successful businessman in a corrupt world. Unlike many of his peers, he takes little interest in politics, other than how they will affect his income, because he has been blessed by the current government. He is reluctantly willing, however, to take part in creating change. Fu Kun is 19 cycles in age.

Neng

Comedic due to his chronic need for sleep, Neng is an upper-middleclass gentleman whose specialty is media and sociology. He is skilled at predicting reactions of the intergalactic populace. Neng also happens to be a good cook. Politically interested, Neng carries his journalistic career on a dangerous route of keeping the public informed of atrocities, while remaining unabused by the government. Neng's life becomes more difficult when he finds reason to believe the government is hiding a dangerous, quickly-spreading epidemic in this now "disease-free" world. Neng is 20 cycles in age.

Michelle

Once a highly intelligent woman, skilled in the arts of healing and medicine, Michelle has been reduced to a shattered shell. Because of her overbearing political convictions that the government must be destroyed, she became a terrorist. One of her attacks not only wiped out the convened High Council (explaining why people as young as Fa Jia have now been allowed on the council), but also killed her fiance. When Michelle learned of her fiance's death, her mind was shattered. She knocked herself into a coma. When she awoke, she had no memory of her terrorist relations, or the death of her fiance. She believes that her fiance was taken by the government and has again aligned with terrorist groups. Michelle is 20 cycles in age.

Phinn

Now deceased, Phinn was Michelle's fiance. While he agreed with her political ideals, his approach was peaceful resistance. He staged civil protests while Michelle bombed cities. A year before their his death, he and Michelle were having relationship problems due to her obsession with destroying the government. At that point, Phinn vowed he would show her the pain and destruction involved in her choice. As they continued to grow apart, Phinn formed a suicidal plan to be present in the target his fiance was to attack. He hoped his sacrifice would allow her to see the beauty of peace. Phinn died at the age of 18 cycles, 2 cycles before much of the story takes place.
